Cafeteria at Musee d'Orsay

The Musee d’Orsay Cafe

One of the best reasons to travel to Paris is to eat, there is no doubt about that. The sheer number of wonderful eateries within the periphique is daunting. Even the museum cafeterias have a pretty good selection of items on their menus.

It’s almost impossible to write about eating in Paris using generalities. Restaurants in Paris offer not only classic French cuisine, but also a wide variety of cuisines from around the world.

Parisians take their meals seriously. They are a time for friends and family to get together, to share food, wine, the news of the day and to have entertaining conversation. Even picnics in the park on a business day are time for resting and enjoying life.

Whether you live there, have traveled there, or just want to go there, tell us about your favorite restaurant in Paris and why you like it or would like to eat there.

Well, you’ve got a picture of one of my favorites right there in your post! But my other ones are on the Place du Marché Sainte-Catherine, and Place du Marché Saint-Honoré. You can’t go wrong with any of the places on those places, but I love Le Marché on St. Cat the best. It’s just so French and yummy. My absolute fave is La Tartine in the 4th. They serve all day, which I love, and it’s like a diner but one in a dream where everyone is fabulous and no one cares and the food is delicious.

La Tartine in the 4th – noted :)

I actually do a lot of eating on the fly when I’m in Paris – things out of the boulangeries. But I was kind of amazed at the quality of the food, in particular the salad bar, in the cafe at the Louvre.

One of my favorite dinner soirees on my last trip was to Le Fleuve Rouge in the 19th. And I think I only had a plate of frites! It was right down the street from apartment, so it was a ‘neighborhood’ eatery. It was the ambiance that I enjoyed. A table full, actually a tightly packed resto, full of people, some wine, and good conversation where the full ashtrays did not bother me. The owners, who are French and Vietnamese, were wonderful hosts. The food reflects both cultures, but, as I remember it, tilts more towards the traditional bistro French.
