Every year on the Summer Solstice, France celebrates the Fête de la Musique. Since 1982 the day of free music has been offered in such venues as parks, music halls, castles, or train stations, as well as on street corners around the country and within the city of Paris. The musicians play for free, the concerts are free, and the organization encourages larger musical organizations to play in venues they normally wouldn’t.
In Paris you will find every type of music being presented - from the sacred, to events for kids and their parents, to Brasilian percussionists, African chanteuses, classical, from the organized to the free-for-all.
So far there are 363 concerts being presented in the city of Paris alone on June 21st. You can check out what’s happening and where on their web site.
If you’ve got a favorite group to see that day – tell us about it in the comments. There are so many to choose from, we could use some help :)
