VIA (Organisation for the Valorisation of Innovation in Furnishing) will celebrate its 30th anniversary in January 2010. To mark the occasion, VIA and the Centre Pompidou are presenting an exhibition, VIA Design 3.0, which will take place from the 16th December 2009 to the 1st February 2010.

The show will present around 40 prototypes of the most representative examples of French applied lifestyle design created over the last 30 years. Among them there will be early designs by Phillippe Starck, Martin Szekely, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Matali Crasset, Mathieu Lehanneur, François Azambourg and Phillippe Rahm, as well as pieces by Gaetano Pesce and even Andrée Putman. At the time, these projects were financed by VIA in the context of their annual program of creative support. In order to highlight the continuation of this initiative, today’s fresh talent and up and coming designers discovered recently by the VIA will represent the lion’s share of this exhibition. Videos (reportages on current creative trends, on the importance of innovation, interviews, etc.) will also be projected.

Part of this collection of unique prototypes will be donated to the Centre Pompidou, thus enriching their design collection which already boasts some 3,000 pieces.

VIA was created in 1979, following an initiative by the CODIFA (Committtee for the Development of French Furniture Industries) with support from the Ministry of Industry. Gerard Laizé has been Director General since 1995.
